Heather Linn and The Deacons Live Saturday Night
Heather Linn and the Deacons bring thier soulful sound to Stages Saturday night.
Heather Linn Cloninger hails from Bloomburg, Texas just down the road in Cass County, and brings her Gospel roots with her acoustic band "The Deacon's."
Heather says that "singing is second nature to her. I've done it since I was 12." Heather got her start playing with a band called Dixie Bent. From there, she started playing acoustic shows. Heather got her own band together. And the rest is history. It has been a quick rise to success and Heather even won an East Texas Music Award nomination as top female vocalist.
She grew up going to church and sang gospel, where she found a niche. But she cut her teeth here in Texarkana at The Oaklawn Opry.
Heather made her way back to the stage in her 30s with a country flair in her performances. It's the music she grew up on, although she's hesitant to call herself a country singer. She's at home with the rock and blues sound. Asked about her style, Heather says that she is not your sweet country singer, but has more of a grittier, soulful sound that most folks can really appreciate.
You will definitely hear a big variety at a Heather Linn Cloninger show and she also performs covers. She's working on her own tunes, but for now her shows see her performing the likes of Janis Joplin, 4 Non Blondes, Bonnie Raitt, classics from Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and even rockers like Aerosmith.
