Drake Pays College Student’s $50,000 Tuition
In case you didn't know, the 6 GOD is a generous one. On Monday (Feb. 5), Drake took a trip to a Miami high school to shoot his new video for "God's Plan," and while in the area, he donated a whopping $50,000 to one University of Miami student.
The student, 20-year-old Destiny James, wrote about the experience in a heartfelt Instagram post thanking the record-breaking artist for his donation. It turns out that James, who is, according to ABC News, a first generation college student, was just about to film a video highlighting the importance donors being willing to contribute to scholarships. She was going to use her own story to contextualize that idea. Drizzy caught wind of the video and James' inspirational story and decided to pull up with a check.
"Drake told me that he has read great things about me and appreciates how hard I've worked through so many trials and decided to give me $50K for my tuition," James wrote in her caption for the post, which included an image of herself, Drizzy and the massive check.
She continued, "@champagnepapi THANK YOU SO MUCH!!' You don't understand what this means to me! I would've never imagined this happening to me. I'm just a girl from Denmark, SC that wants to MAKE IT and be somebody and for you to see my hard work means the world. Thank you so much. God I thank you. You are so great and amazing! Thank you for blessing me when I thought my hard work was going unnoticed. I'm living out my dreams. God's Plan 🙏🏾."
As if that weren't enough, Drizzy apparently also made time to donate $25,000 to Miami Senior High School and announced that all students would be given special OVO-designed uniforms.
