Do You Know About the Stunning Arkansas Grand Canyon?
We all know about the Grand Canyon but did you know the state of Arkansas has a bit of a canyon too?
Many years ago the locals tabbed the area the Arkansas Grand Canyon and the name stuck. The canyon is located in the expansive Big Creek Valley in the Ozark mountain range that runs along the stunning Scenic Byway 7 just minutes away from the town of Jasper. The Arkansas Grand Canyon is surrounded by seven Boston mountain peaks, according to Arkansas Online.
Rotary Ann Roadside Park
As you travel through this area there are several notable stops along the way such as the Rotary Ann Roadside Park that features sweeping 180-degree views of the Ozarks and historically was the first roadside rest area built in Arkansas back in the 1930s.
As you come across junction Ar 16 and Ar 21, check out the small community of Fallsville. Further on down the road you'll travel across the Boxley Valley which is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Arkansas, I would say where the buffalo roam but it's more where the Elk roam free.
The Buffalo National River runs through the valley as well with lots of wooded forests but lots of scenic spots where you can stop off and capture some breathtaking photos.
Cliff House Inn
The best place to take a picture is at the Cliff House Inn that features a huge deck overlooking the Arkansas Grand Canyon valley floor. And you may want to grab something to eat while your there because the inn has a full service restaurant. The inn is about 2,100 feet above sea level.
If you love camping, hiking, or canoeing, the Arkansas Grand Canyon offers all that and more if you the great outdoors. No matter what season the views are spectacular by car or motorcycle and it is certainly worth the drive.
