Summer in our corner of Texas and Arkansas can get a little toasty, but there are plenty of great lakes that are just a short drive from our area that are really worth checking out.

My husband and I just got back from a summer camping trip to Cooper Lake State Park just north of Sulphur Springs. This was a perfect spot that was centrally located to meet up with our friends from Ft. Worth.

"Wait a minute, this looks like the coast!"

Spacious & Shaded Campsites

We camped with friends at Doctor's Creek which is located on the northeast side of the lake and it's beautiful! The campsites are big and spaced out.  The grounds are nicely wooded so you get plenty of shade at your campsite. Oh and tons of nature trails in and around the campground. Camping with a Brit on the 4th of July can get interesting. We also had an Aussie and met another Brit. They all love this country so all was good with the world!

Clean Showers & Restrooms

If you are into any kind of camping, whether it's in a tent or a camper you will always want the shower and restroom facilities to be nice and clean (i don't care if you think you'll never go in there. It's always a nice 'just in case') The restroom and shower facilities are very nice and clean. My husband and I always bring our bikes and that made the occasional trip to the restroom easy and quick.

Wildlife

We had a few visitors in the evening from opossums to armadillos! Well, it's summer in Texas so what would you expect? Our cat Izzy, that camps with us, enjoyed looking out the windows at all the wildlife and the humans that walked past our camper. Although I think the humans enjoyed seeing Izzy as she chilled out on the dash of our camper just as much as they enjoyed seeing the 'other' wildlife.

Sandy Beach Swimming Area

To cool off we checked out the swimming area and that was really nice too. From what I heard they just put it in and it was super clean with a great sandy beach, and if there is a beach somewhere even on a lake, I'm down with that.

If you are wanting to see and discover more about Texas and what it has to offer then definitely check out Cooper Lake!
