Digging Straight Down From Texarkana, Where Would You Come Out?
It's been featured in cartoons and Sci-Fi films from years gone by, if you dig straight down, through the middle of the earth, would you come out in China? Well, did you know there is an app for that?
Could You Come Out In China?
Yes, but not digging from here in Texarkana. In fact, you couldn't come out in China by digging straight down from anywhere in the United States. To end up in China, you would have to start digging much further south, like way further. All the way down to Pichinal, Argentina to hit the Southern Chinese mainland.
The direct opposite of anything is called the "antipode," and there is an app or website that has an interactive map on the left, which would be your starting point, on the right is where you would come out if you dug straight through. It's called the Antipodes Map.
So, where do these fantasy potential diggers come out on the direct opposite side of the planet?
Let's Go To The Map:
Digging from New York?
Let's try Dallas:
How about Los Angeles?
Is anybody else seeing a pattern here?
The fact is from Grand Isle, Maine to Port Oxford, Oregon... Brownsville, Texas to Jim's Corner, Minnesota, and even down to Key West, Florida, anywhere you dig in the contiguous United States straight through to the other side of the planet, you would come out treading water in the Indian Ocean somewhere between Australia and Africa.
The only state you could start from would be the big island of Hawaii:
You would emerge in Botswana, on the African continent. Crazy huh? There goes one of my childhood fantasies...
Side Note:
Hey flat-earthers, kinda shoots another hole in your theory doesn't it? Kind of like seeing the Earth's shadow on the face of the moon during an eclipse.

So, for us it's not exactly an Earth Sandwich, it's more like an Earth 8000 Layer Dip.
