Chance The Rapper Will Be in ‘The Lion King’ Movie
So it turns out that Chance The Rapper's got a role in the upcoming live-action/animated remake of The Lion King, and he owes it all to Childish Gambino, who plays Simba in the film.
On Wednesday (July 10), Chance went on his Instagram page to share several photos of him attending the premiere of The Lion King in Los Angeles on Tuesday (July 9). In one image, he and his daughter, Kensli, are posing with Beyoncé (who plays Nala in the movie) and her daughter Blue Ivy. In the caption, Chano explained how his involvement in The Lion King has impacted his life.
"I grew up my whole life obsessed with all things related to #TheLionKing; like all three films, the Timon and Pumbaa tv show, the broadway play and especially the broadway soundtrack," he wrote. "Needless to say the original film was immensely impactful on my music and overall life. So when my big bro [Donald Glover] got casted as Simba, he did the coolest thing ever and told director Jon Favreau to call me in as a consultant to keep the original flavor."
After Chance consulted on the film for a year, the film's director, Jon Favreau, decided to add Chance to the all-star cast.
"One day I’m there Jon asked me to do some singing stuff, another day he asks me to do some lines," he wrote. "Its all a blur, but I’ll tell u its one of the best blurs of my whole life. I am so blessed to know people like Donald and Jon man. AMAZING FILM, AMAZING CAST AND AN AMAZING NIGGHT LAST NIGHT. GOD BLESS AND LONG LIVE THE KING."
For the record, Chance is playing a bush baby in the Disney remake. Ironically, the Chicago rapper told Access that he originally "tried out for the role of Simba" but didn't get the part. Nevertheless, Chance is excited to be part of this major film.
The Lion King will open in U.S. theaters on July 19. Check out Chance The Rapper's IG post below.
