Veterans Day is always observed on Nov. 11 with speeches and parades across the U.S. The holiday began as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. There are several events planned for the Texarkana area on Wednesday Nov. 11, to honor our local veterans.

Students from North Heights Junior High, along with participants from Central Baptist Church, will take part in a program honoring veterans in the Texarkana area. Students involved with choir, band and string instruments will perform at 10AM on Wednesday, November 11. Admission is free.

Texarkana, Texas ISD will host several Veterans Day events on Wednesday as well. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.  

  • 8AM – Texas Middle School – includes a tunnel of honor, program, refreshments
  • 8:30AM – Morriss Elementary School – Tunnel of Honor – 9:00 a.m. Program & refreshments
  • 9AM – Spring Lake Park Elementary School – includes program & refreshments
  • 1:30PM Highland Park Elementary School – includes program & refreshments along with a Special Flag presentation from Lone Star Chapters of Daughters of American Revolution.
Pleasant Grove High school invites everyone to a city-wide Veteran’s Day Celebration on Wednesday at 10AM. This celebration will feature students from Pleasant Grove, Arkansas High, Liberty-Eylau, and Texas High. Veterans are encouraged to be recognized during the service hymns.
Texarkana College is offering free lunch on Veterans Day to T.C. students, faculty, and staff with military ID’s. That will be from 11AM to 1PM in the Bulldog Bistro. Then on Monday, November 16, the Texarkana Regional Chorale will present a special musical tribute to veterans at 7PM inside the Great Room of the Truman Arnold Center. The event is free and open to the public.
