A Race to The Baby!

Does anyone else find this odd:
Kate Hudson is pregnant! with her 2nd child, which is also the 2nd with a rocker dude. She's been dating Muse singer Matthew Bellamy for about nine months now. She announced her pregnancy the same week that Owen Wilson (who is not a rocker dude but is a Kate-ex)

announced that his girlfriend is pregnant....a girlfriend I didn't know he had but whatever. Was it a race to get pregnant first and prove that they have moved past their past relationship? This photo, by the way, is from April of 2008 when word was they may be getting serious and Kate may be considering having Owen's baby.
