Disney unveiled new details about their upcoming streaming service today — including its official name, “Disney+.” More importantly for Marvel fans, they confirmed the long-circulating rumors that the service will be the exclusive home for spinoff Marvel Cinematic Universe series, the first of which will be a show for Loki, everyone’s favorite Norse trickster god, played in the Thor and Avengers films by Tom Hiddleston.

The official announcement has very few details; there’s no information on who is writing or directing any of this, or even how many episodes the Loki series will run. There’s no official release date yet. This is all we know for sure:

Disney+ is also assembling a live-action series centered around a fan-favorite character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iger today confirmed that Marvel Studios is developing a series based on Loki, the god of mischief, to star Tom Hiddleston.

It will be interesting to see how this series syncs up with the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Loki met a nasty fate in Infinity War (spoilers!), but he’s “died” in pretty much every single movie he’s appeared in. He fell into an abyss at the end of Thor then came back in The Avengers. He selflessly sacrificed himself in Thor: The Dark World, then wound up impersonating Odin. So it ain’t no thing for Loki to come back to life. Or you could just do a prequel.

Either way, it will be great to see Hiddleston front and center. He’s been the bright spot in so many Marvel movies. If any Marvel character deserves their own series, it’s Loki.
