The Weeknd Drops New Song “Blinding Lights”: Listen
The Weeknd is heating up to close out the year. Following the release of his first solo song of 2019, Abel returns with another track titled "Blinding Lights."
He teased the new single on Thursday (Nov. 28), via social media. "Oh yah... and more new music tonight (in HQ 😉)," he captioned a series of photos.
On Friday (Nov. 29), he lets the new offering free.
"Blinding Lights" is produced by The Weeknd, Oscar Holton and Max Martin and has a 1980s dance groove with lively synths and popping drum kicks.
"I said, ooh, I'm blinded by the lights/No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch/I said, ooh, I'm drowning in the night/Oh, when I'm like this, you're the one I trust/Hey, hey, hey," Weeknd rhymes on the upbeat track.
The new song comes on the heels of the Canadian crooner releasing the single "Heartless." That track was produced by Metro Boomin, Weeknd and Illangelo and had a trap vibe.
Weeknd last dropped a project over a year ago with the March 2018 EP, My Dear Melancholy. That project was spearheaded by the singles "Call Out My Name" and "Wasted Times."
Fans have been waiting with bated breath for new music from Abel for a minute, most specifically, his upcoming album, which is believed to be titled Chapter VI. Back in June, he got fans' hopes up when he deactivated his Instagram account, which people took as a sign that a new album was afoot.
"The Weeknd deactivated his Instagram...he better come back with that album," posted one fan on Twitter.
"OH MY GOD WHY DID ABEL DELETE HIS INSTAGRAM!??!!!!????!!!!??? IF THE ALBUM DOESN’T COME OUT ON FRIDAY I’M GOING TO LOSE IT!" another user commented.
Obviously, fans didn't get their wish, but it looks like Weeknd may be gearing up to finally satisfy their appetites.
