The Harlem Globetrotter Essay Prize Winner Announced
The world famous Harlem Globetrotters will be in Texarkana tonight (1/27) at the Four States Fairgrounds Entertainment Center. Power 95.9 just finished up the Harlem Globetrotters Kid's essay contest about "What is Good Character?" Kids from four middle school districts got to write about this topic and now we reveal the winner -- 7th grader Joshua Porchia of Pleasant Grove Middle School and his teacher, Mrs. Stone. The winner got a pizza party, tickets to the game, an autographed basketball and a T-shirt to be given out at the game tonight, while Joshua's teacher also received tickets to the game. Wes and Mimi from Power 95.9 went to the pizza party and handed out some special goodies.
Here's the winning Essay from Pleasant Grove Middle School:
"Good character is like the shoulder or outline of who you are, and who you show. Good character is shown in your actions and words. Every human being doesn't show good character, for example, you are not having good character without three rules, trustworthy, respectful, and mindful. Your individual actions and words, known as character, follow you in life, good or bad. Character is shown in words by being the things you say to other people. This is being mindful or respectful when you communicate with others. Character is shown in your actions when you physically or mentally hurt or harass others. Good character can also be standing up for your beliefs, showing fearless and courage in your character, making your character strong. These are ways I would describe good character. Think about this next time you're asked about this topic."
