The Caribbean of the South – Arkansas’ Sand Island Escape

If I told you about a tropical-like beach with white sand in Arkansas, you would probably say, you're crazy! Well, it's true and the only way you can get there is by boat.

I mentioned this last year, told some friends about it and they went to Norfolk Lake Beaches in the Ozarks and couldn't believe it. This mountain lake has all-natural white sandy beaches but the one I am speaking about is in the Northeast corner of Norfork Lake and it is appropriately named Sand Island.

This tropical paradise is surrounded by three other beaches and the only way to get there is by boat, no worries man, if you don't have one there are rentals available.

This island oasis is somewhat secluded with surrounding beaches that offer something for everyone in your family. The lake gives off a crystal blue hue and there's plenty of room to wade in the shallow end while you sip on a cool beverage listening to some Jimmy Buffet.

The warm white sand between your toes will make you think you are somewhere in the Caribbean, in fact, it's been nicknamed the Caribbean of the South, according to their website. That's right, you will not feel like you are in the natural state unless of course, you're naked and that's not allowed on this island.

Why spend thousands of dollars when you can stay close to home this summer and enjoy some awesome amenities like lakefront cabins at  Hand Cove Resort. At Norfolk Lake, there are campsites, hiking, picnic areas, and fishing with nearby shopping and restaurants. With over 550 miles of shoreline, you'll surely find something fun to do.
