Texarkana Courthouse Square to Bring Stunning Light to Downtown

Are you ready for something really cool that is going to happen downtown? The Courthouse Square Connections Project group is getting ready for amazing and stunning upgrades to our Post Office and Courthouse in downtown Texarkana. The upgrade? It will be fantastic lighting by artist Bill FitzGibbons.

The project cost is $150,000 and we are almost there with $87,500 raised so far.  Thanks to the funding from Texas Commission on the Arts gave $27,500, Patterson Troike Foundation donated $20,000, the City of Texarkana Arkansas and the City of Texarkana Texas both donated $20,000 each to the project.

The lighting project will is expected to be finished in time for Texarkana’s 150th founding celebration next year in 2023.

Dr. Ben DuBois, a member of the Courthouse Square Connections group stated in a press release;

This project is more than just an installment of lights. It's an opportunity to illuminate an area of our growing downtown, furthering the development and revitalization that's already happening in a big way. This lighting is going to add to our community celebrations, enhance the safety of our downtown, and serve as a symbol of unity for Texarkana, USA. It's going to be awesome.

 

According to his website, artist Bill FitzGibbons created sculptures for over thirty years; and has also created 30 plus public art projects and performances in five countries including Iceland, Finland, Germany, Sweden, and England.

Bill FitzGibbonds is also the Official State Artist of Texas. He was appointed the title at the 82nd Legislative Session back in 2012.
