Texarkana ISD Looks At Reacquisition of Pine Street Campus
Oh now, this would be great and a long time coming. Texarkana Independent School District is looking at the possibility to repurchase the old Pine Street Junior High School campus located at 1915 Pine Street in Texarkana.
What Might Become of the Old Pine Street Middle School?
There will be a hearing by a panel appointed by the County Court at Law of Bowie County on Thursday, March 3. According to a press release;
Local officials have expressed support of TISD’s efforts to reacquire the property due to the neglect of the current owner, the hazardous conditions created as a result, and the school district's plans to improve the property
The property is currently owned by Old School Lofts Joint Ventures managed by Dallas-based developer John Stone.
Over the Years There Were So Many Hopes For the Property
Over the years, so many people were hopeful that the need for renovations would happen while others thought its too far gone and it needed to be torn down.
The main building on the campus was built in 1926 with the capus completed in 1930. It was the home of Texas High School until 1967 when the current Texas High School was built. Then the campus became the home to Pine Street Junior High School with the last class held at this site in 1996. It was by bought by Stone in 2005 and nothing has been done to it. Now as it stands, Keith Lee, Texarkana, Texas Chief Building Official stated;
“There are very large holes and substantial damage on all buildings internally and externally. Most of the damage is related to vandalism and deterioration from exposure to the weather. Due to the instability of the deteriorated and unsecured structures at the former Pine Street School, the property is not considered safe in its current condition."
There will be an evaluation of the property to determine if it can still be saved. TISD Board of Trustees President Fred Norton said they will look at every possible option available.
