Marvel’s ‘Inhumans’ shoots for the moon with a super-powered ‘Game of Thrones,’ but winds up much closer to bargain-basement ‘Thor.’ Our early review, before the IMAX premiere hits ABC on September 29.

Neither The Punisher nor Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got to hold court at Comic-Con 2017, but Marvel will change that for New York. Both series will be granted their own panels in Madison Square Garden to preview the upcoming seasons from NYCC.

It’s debatable which Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. outing relied the most on visual effects, though certainly Season 4 pushed limits with its flame-skulled, life-modeling and reality-warped twists. We weren’t entirely surprised that ABC would spin Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s creative momentum into a fifth season, though a full 22-episode order raised eyebrows, given its midseason placement. Reports also now suggest that Season 5 may not get going until 2018, following the debut of Marvel’s The Inhumans.

There’s some understandable trepidation from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans, as the fourth season’s “Framework” feels like one final victory lap with departed series stars. There’s also Marvel’s Inhumans taking the spotlight in September, but according to a new report, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 is almost a done deal.

News of Marvel’s ABC-IMAX The Inhumans series was quickly followed by curious distinctions that a separate movie might still make it onto the MCU slate. That’s certainly what the sometime-attached Vin Diesel would prefer, as the Guardians of the Galaxy star says he has a mind to talk to Marvel about fixing their plans.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasted little time introducing us to a fully-formed Ghost Rider, further evolving effects we’d seen through two prior movies. Now, Season 4 goes behind the scenes to show us the mo-cap creation of Gabriel Luna’s fiery Spirit of Vengeance, LED hood and all.

Well, if we were hoping the addition of Ghost Rider and a 10:00 P.M. time slot would take Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a little darker, the first Season 4 footage will really light your fire. Ghost Rider is out for vengeance in the first footage, even attaching himself as a subtitle for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4.

ABC notably pumped Marvel’s brakes this past year, to decline additional Agent Carter, an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff or any other series, but the next could pick up in only a matter of weeks. ABC execs say they’ll meet with Marvel in a few weeks’ time to discuss their options toward a series “we all feel is as creatively strong as it can be.”
