Shannen Doherty Confirms ‘Heathers’ Reboot Role With Photo
If you (like us) emitted a "noooo!" upon hearing of TVLand's planned Heathers TV series reboot, there's now reason to tune in and check it out: Shannen Doherty has confirmed she'll be appearing on the forthcoming show.
Doherty shared an Instagram photo from the Heathers set, in which she's wearing her original character Heather Duke's signature red scrunchie (which, of course, she snatches from original mean girl Heather Chandler after her death).
"Sneak peek from the #Heathers set..... jealous much?," the former Charmed star wrote.
While Doherty's looking downright Heather Duke-ish with her auburn side ponytail in the photo below, TVLand's present-day "reimagining" will be a flip on the premise of the 1989 dark comedy. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the clique that rules the school are actually the weirdos. Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) is a black lesbian, Heather Duke is a “male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath” and queen bee Heather Chandler (originally played by the late Kim Walker) looks like more like original movie outcast Martha "Dumptruck" Dunnstock. Would that this remotely mirrored the reality of our own high school experience!
The news is also encouraging for Shannen Doherty fans who've watched the actress recently battle breast cancer, which spread to her lymph nodes. Doherty's Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Luke Perry offered words of support at REWindCon in Illinois earlier this month.
Clearing up past rumors of bad blood on set of the '90s show, Perry said, "She taught me a lot. I’m glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me."
