The Miller County Sheriff's Office sent out a release today, Wednesday, December 15, with an update on a shooting situation that has now been upgraded to First Degree Murder.

Chris A. Basham, a 34-year-old white male of Texarkana, Arkansas was originally arrested by Miller County Deputies and charged with Battery in the First Degree on Thursday, December 9. The Battery charge was the shooting of 38-year-old Donald R. Hayworth Jr., also a white male of Miller County, Arkansas.  Hayworth had been hospitalized since the shooting, died on Tuesday, 12-14-21.

Since then,  on Wednesday 12-15-21, Miller County Investigator P. Ray once again booked Chris Basham into the Miller County Detention Center, this time on a new charge of Murder in the First Degree, plus an additional two counts of a Terroristic Act.  Basham had previously been released on a $250,000.00 bond for the initial Battery Charge.

Basham remains in the Miller County Detention Center awaiting the outcome of a new arraignment on the new charges.

The Sheriff's Office will be sending Donald Hayworth's body to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy.
