UPDATE: One day after tweeting about his plans to produce a Mac Miller documentary, CJ Wallis has stepped forward to clarify his comments, indicating that Mac Miller's Estate has told them to halt the documentary for the time being.

"We heard back from @christianclancy & The Estate who said the family has requested we hold off on the project at this time," Wallis wrote. "We immediately compiled as the last thing we'd want is to negatively impact anyone involved, quite the opposite."

ORIGINAL STORY:

It looks like the first posthumous Mac Miller documentary is in the works.

On Monday (June 3), filmmaker CJ Wallis tweeted about his plans to begin gathering content and conducting interviews for a definitive documentary about Mac Miller. The upcoming film may include various conversations with artists like Ty Dolla $ign, Chance The Rapper, Vince Staples or Travis Scott, all of which performed at Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life last year.

"So, over the next year I'm going to start collecting interviews & content to make the definitive @MacMiller documentary for his family, friends & fans..."

Mac Miller passed away at the age of 26 from a drug overdose on Sept. 7, 2018. He was discovered by his assistant in his apartment while in the praying position. Since Mac's death, artists like Kid CudiScHoolboy Q and more have paid tribute to his memory. This past winter, Mac was posthumously nominated for a Grammy. Swimming, which was the last project he released before his death, earned him the nom, which also marked his first Grammy nomination.

There's no confirmation on the release date for Wallis' doc, and seeing as he's just announced it, it looks like it won't be out for a while. It would be dope if the late rapper's rumored album with Madlib, reportedly dubbed MacLib, drops before the documentary. Producer Thelonious Martin, who helped create the song “Guidelines” with Mac Miller, claimed that Madlib told him about an entire project that he and the late Pittsburgh rhymer had recorded before he passed.

Mac's unreleased music and the documentary on his life will definitely bring a smile to the fans around the world who miss him. Check out Wallis' tweets below.
