Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Nominated for Country Music Award
Lil Nas X is finally getting the recognition from the country music scene that he deserves.
On Wednesday morning (Aug. 28), the Country Music Awards revealed their nominees for this year's award show. The CMAs announced that Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" (Remix) featuring country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus is one of five nominees who are up for the Musical Event of the Year award. The "Panini" artist couldn't hide his excitement for the nomination.
"Thank you guys for this nomination!!" Nas X tweeted soon after the announcement was made.
The news about his nomination comes nearly six months after "Old Town Road" was removed from Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Back in March, a Billboard insider explained that Lil Nas X's song was removed from the Hot Country Songs list because the song "does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
Shortly after its removal, "Old Town Road" shot up to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained there for 19 weeks straight. Fast forward to August, the song shattered Drake's streaming record and broke the record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart before it was dethroned by Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy."
The Country Music Awards goes down on Nov. 13 and will air at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
