America’s 249th Birthday lands on a Friday this year. PARTAY!!!! Many people will have the day off in El Paso but that means local businesses will also be closing their doors!
If you plan on running any errands on the 4th of July make sure wherever you’re heading is open!

What is open and closed in El Paso, TX on 4th of July
Closed on the 4th
- City & County offices (all admin divisions, municipal courts, library branches, and collection stations) will be closed in observance of the holiday
- UTEP will be shut, operating with only skeleton crews on campus
- EPCC will be closed. Classes will resume on Saturday, July 5 and offices will reopen on Monday, July 7.
- Post offices, local DMV, and federal services (including courts and non‑emergency branches) are taking the day off .
- City clinics (WIC, STD/HIV prevention), museums (Archaeology, Art, History), senior & rec centers, and dental and bond offices.
- Banks and financial institutions: closed, but ATMs and online banking stay live
Open or Operating
- Sun Metro (bus, streetcar, paratransit) runs on a Sunday/holiday schedule
- Garbage/recycling picks up as usual, and the Greater El Paso Landfill stays open until 2 p.m.
- Animal Services shelters have limited hours (typically 11 a.m.–2 p.m.)
- El Paso Zoo, botanical gardens, city spray parks, and water parks are welcoming visitors (check local listings for exact times; generally open daylight hours)
- Franklin Mountains State Park and outdoor spaces like Chamizal National Memorial remain open for exploration.
Other Services & Institutions
Mail and couriers: USPS halts delivery and retail; FedEx and UPS suspend regular service, but emergency and critical shipments may run.
