Why Billie Lourd Didn’t Invite Carrie Fisher’s Brother and Sisters to Late Star’s Walk of Fame Ceremony
Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd did not invite Carrie's siblings to the late Star Wars icon's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which is set to take place Thursday (May 4).
On May 3, Lourd released a statement revealing why she did not invite her aunts and uncle — Carrie's sisters Joely and Tricia, and brother Todd — to the once-in-a-lifetime event in Hollywood.
In her statement, the Booksmart actress accused her aunts and uncle of capitalizing on the death of her late mother, who died Dec. 27, 2016, as well as "publicly attacking" her for choosing not to invite them.
"The truth is I did not invite them to this ceremony. They know why," Lourd said, according to Variety.
Lourd alleged Carrie's siblings attempted to make money off the Princess Leia icon's death via interviews and book deals.
"They never consulted me or considered how this would affect our relationship. The truth of my mom’s very complicated relationship with her family is only known by me and those who were actually close to her. Though I recognize they have every right to do whatever they choose, their actions were very hurtful to me at the most difficult time in my life. I chose to and still choose to deal with her loss in a much different way," Lourd shared.
Variety reports Lourd decided to defend herself publicly after she caught wind of Todd, Joely and Tricia's statements to the press and on social media.
"The press release Todd Fisher gave to TMZ and the posting Joely Fisher placed on Instagram, once again confirms that my instincts were right. To be clear — there is no feud. We have no relationship. This was a conscious decision on my part to break a cycle with a way of life I want no part of for myself or my children," she continued.

Speaking to TMZ prior to Lourd's statement, Todd said it was “heartbreaking” and “shocking” to not be invited to Carrie's ceremony, and claimed he was "intentionally omitted from attending this important legacy event."
The next day, Joely and Tricia shared a statement on Instagram claiming Carrie would have wanted them at the event. They called being excluded "deeply shocking."
Carrie will be honored with the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during her posthumous ceremony today, finally joining her Star Wars co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. The ceremony will be streamed online beginning at 2:30PM ET.
Lourd will accept the star on behalf of her mother.
"The people who knew and loved my mom at Disney and Lucasfilm have made this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to honor her legacy possible. This moment is about Carrie Fisher and all that she accomplished and what she meant to the world," Lourd said of the event in her statement, adding, "May the 4th be with you."
