Move over San Antonio, a new Texas-sized river walk project is coming to the Lone Star State.

For years, Texans, and those visiting Texas, have traveled to San Antonio to stroll the banks of the River Walk and to dine and shop at many of the hundreds of shops that line the tourist attraction.

A Dallas-based investment company wants to create a San Antonio-like experience with a new riverwalk project in a Dallas-Ft. Worth suburb. The project will be constructed in the city of Mansfield, just south of Ft. Worth. The company recently announced more details about the planned project.

The proposed 210-acre project, The Reserve, is expected to cost around $1 billion and will open in phases beginning in 2027.

When complete, The Reserve will feature:

  • half-mile canal loop
  • boardwalk plaza
  • 6 acre lake
  • dining options
  • retail and commercial space
  • hotel space
  • residential space

The Reserve will also become the new home of Mansfield City Hall. Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans tells WFAA,

The Reserve is going to be a special place that Mansfield has never seen before. The Reserve and Mansfield's new city hall will be the perfect civic space where people can conduct local business, participate in their local government, and gather to make memories as one community."

The Reserve project is planned for construction near Texas Highway 360 and US Highway 287 interchange.

This isn't the only big news happening in Mansfield

This past November it was announced that construction would soon begin on the Staybolt Street Entertainment District. This planned project will house a sports arena that would have seating for 7000 fans and would be home to major soccer events. The cost of this project is expected to be around $83 million.

Entertainment and sports options are looking to be a hot item in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The metroplex will soon be home to a new amusement park for younger kids with the new Peppa Pig theme park opening this spring in nearby North Richland Hills.
