Watch: Drivers Slide Helplessly Down Icy Austin Hill
Here’s another reminder to exercise extreme caution once snow and/or ice start to fall in Texas, especially when it comes to hills. And if you know anything about Austin, it’s located right smack dab in the middle of the Hill Country.
I’m not here to judge or ridicule my fellow Texans for having issues driving on icy roads, because I’ve had my fair share of issues over the years. Hell, I drove for the first time since the ice storm started on Friday just Tuesday afternoon. The main roads were okay, but the side streets were packed with snow.

However, at least with snow, you can actually get some traction. But icy roads are practically unpassable as you’re guaranteed to lose traction. As you can see in the video below, several drivers in Austin were reminded of that.
You can hear a child scream as an SUV spins out of control going downhill, eventually coming to a stop when it hits a pileup of cars that had suffered the same fate. There’s even a guy standing outside of one of the vehicles who is able to get out of the way before the SUV smacks into the pileup. If I were him, I would get down on my knees and thank God I didn’t slip and fall on that ice. That could have been deadly.
