Texas Is The #1 State for Housing ICE Detainees
We know that U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are working hard in Texas to enforce the laws within our country. But it was shocking to me to find out just how many ICE detainees are currently being housed in the Lone Star State.
How Many Immigrants Are Being Held in Texas?
According to new statistics by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) the immigration and customs enforcement detention facilities in Texas are holding more detainees that any other state.
As of February 8th, there were 38,919 people currently detained, and 10,881 were in Texas facilities. That is nearly 28% of all detainees here in our home state.
There were a total of seven detention centers in Texas that were among the top 20 facilities and each of those locations are housing over 800 people for ICE.

Which Other States Have Housed the Most Detainees?
According to the report, our neighbors to the east in Louisiana and in Mississippi have also been housing lots of immigrants too.
In fact, the facility housing the largest number of ICE detainees is actually not in Texas. It’s in Natches, Mississippi holding approximately 2,154 people per day.
There are 42,000 detention beds currently being used across the country.
President Trump Wants More Money and Beds
The Trump administration would like to see these numbers increase.
Requesting that congress approves more money to be used for increasing the number of beds to help with more mass deportations in our country.
It will be interesting to see if these trends continue as more arrests and deportations take place for those in the country illegally.
