This is the first day of May meaning that trillions of cicadas will begin invading this part of the South including Arkansas. later this month. Are you ready for the loud noise that these insects will bring when they show up in droves?

According to Inside Edition, the noise will double what it normally sounds when two different broods of periodical cicadas take over the trees and brush. The two expected broods are Brood XIX and  Brood XIII, this hasn't occurred since 1803 and won't happen again until 2037. With an excessive amount of cicadas, comes an excessive amount of loud noise depending on how close you get to these creepy crawlers.

For example, the noise could range from 70 to 80 decibels which is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner running but it could also reach decibels of 90 to 100 decibels which is equivalent to the sound of a lawn mower.

The loudness you hear comes from the male cicada which produces the noise to attract females and is even louder during the hottest days.

Can They Harm You?

Cicadas can damage small plants and trees but pose no harm to humans however, they are considered the loudest insect in the world, and listening to them for an extended period could be harmful to your ears.

The cicadas have already been spotted in Georgia and South Carolina one resident living in South Carolina couldn't believe how many cicadas have already taken over her backyard and patio some people have even called the sheriff for the loud noise.
