The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (UAHT) will offer a Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Level 1 course later this winter, providing hands-on, entry-level training for individuals looking to build or advance careers in industrial automation.

Hands-On Training for In-Demand Skills

The four-day course is scheduled for February 24–27, 2026, and will be held Tuesday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM on UAHT’s Hope Campus, located at 2500 South Main Street.

Programmable Logic Controllers are a key component in modern manufacturing, utilities, and automated industrial systems. Skilled PLC technicians are in high demand in various industries, including manufacturing, food processing, energy, logistics, and water and wastewater operations. Employers rely on PLC expertise to maintain automation systems, reduce downtime, and improve production efficiency.

Industry-Standard Equipment and Instruction

Participants will receive applied instruction using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation ControlLogix hardware, including the 1769-L36ERM CPU, along with Studio 5000 and RSLinx software. Training will take place on PLC trainers designed to mirror equipment commonly found in real-world industrial environments.

  • PLC operating principles
  • Discrete and analog inputs and outputs
  • Programming fundamentals
  • System maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Basic networking concepts

The course is suitable for maintenance personnel, electricians, technicians, engineers, and individuals seeking entry-level automation skills.
