Texarkana Weekend Events: 9/11 Memorial, Glow 5K & More

This weekend will begin as we all take time to remember 9/11. It's hard to believe it took place 25 years ago... and we will never forget that day. Here is a list of some of the great events taking place this weekend, Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, in Texarkana and beyond.

Steps of Service Challenge Ceremony - Friday morning

Red River Credit Union will conclude the RRCU Gives Steps of Service Challenge, a special event honoring the first responders who served and sacrificed during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Downtown LIVE Texarkana - Friday 6 PM- 9 PM

Enjoy the heart of downtown during Downtown LIVE! from 6 to 9 PM on Friday, September 11. This month's events include trolley rides through the historic downtown, open-house tours of local museums and landmarks, live art exhibits, shopping and more. Be The Light 5K Honoring NICU Families - Saturday 6 PM- 9 PM

Lace up your running shoes and Glow! It's 2nd Annual Be the Light 5K benefiting Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. The glow race, at CHRISUS St. Michael Hospital Campus, brings families and friends together to raise awareness and give encouragement to families going through the NICU journey. Tunnel 2 Towers Steel Across America - Texarkana Stop - June 3, 2026

On the 25th anniversary year of 9/11, this steel beam from the Twin Towers in New York that fell on September 11, 2001, is a must-see. The ceremony was very well done and featured short speeches from both Texarkana Mayors and Fire Chiefs. I know many in attendance weren't even alive when the attack happened 25 years ago, but for those of us who remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when the planes struck the towers, it was an amazing thing to see and touch.
