Saturday in downtown Texarkana came alive with the 2026 Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The weather turned out perfect, with temperatures in the mid-60s, and a rather large crowd of festival goers was seen dancing in front of one of the two stages. The smell of delicious food filled the air while Mardi Gras revelers dressed for the occasion strolled the Front Street Plaza shopping for bargains and Mardi Gras merchandise.

Four DJs, including my friend Jessica Hagood, had the jams to keep the all-day party poppin' before the parade at 3 PM.

A large crowd gathered on Broad Street, waiting for the parade to begin. Family and friends were excited to snag some beads off the parade floats as they passed by. The Grand Marshal this year was led by the Cookie Foundation Inc.

I do wish the parade were a little longer, but everyone there was having a good time, including a little boy named Jackson, whom I met with his family.

I caught a few beads and candy, but I want to know who was throwing the Ramen Noodles packets?

Besides the floats, there were lots of motorcycles and classic cars. After the parade, there was a performance from Jack Forte. Children could be seen playing in the bounce houses, enjoying some face painting, and visiting the petting zoo.
