Texarkana ‘Iced Down’ Friday Morning
Texarkana's "Snowmageddon 2025" didn't happen. Yeah, I think we're all a little disappointed in that. Who wasn't looking forward to a snow day?
We did, however, get plenty of ice, broken trees, limbs, and downed power lines to go with it.
It really is quite beautiful, but unfortunately, it is so destructive as well.
As I rolled down Arkansas Blvd. this morning at about 4:30 AM heading to the station, while some lights were out on the Texas side, the Arkansas side was extremely dark. I noticed some downed power lines had already been marked by authorities for the power people to deal with. The most startling thing is when you realize that all the traffic lights are out and SOME people are just flying through those intersections without a care in the world. When they are not working you always treat it as a four-way stop.
I saw these lines on Summerhill Rd (above) on my way home this morning just before they shut down that part of the road to start repairs. The roads themselves were not bad around town this morning, but the ice in the trees and the downed powerlines were the big problem.
Van Jones is a trucker/listener who sent us a few pics and videos this morning up the road a bit near Arkadelphia, Arkansas on I-30 where traffic was at a complete standstill. Van had plenty of time time to get out and build a snowman.
Overall, I guess it's a good thing it didn't get that bad here. Thanks for the pic, Van! Be careful out there.
The Texarkana weather forecast predicts a high of 40 on Saturday and 46 on Sunday. So what little we got will be gone soon.
