Three Juveniles Arrested – Five Stolen Guns Recovered in Texarkana

Three juveniles are facing charges after Texarkana Texas Police officers recovered five firearms, most of which had been reported stolen during recent vehicle burglaries in the Texarkana area.

Thanks to the Sharp Eyes of an Off-Duty Nash Officer

According to the Texarkana PD, the arrests happened around midnight Friday while a Nash officer was working an off-duty assignment at the movie theater.

Police say the officer recognized a vehicle believed to have been connected to recent vehicle burglaries in both Nash and Texarkana, Arkansas. He alerted TTPD Officer Jacob Miramontes, who soon spotted the vehicle leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop in a nearby parking lot.

Juveniles' Names Not Released

Inside the vehicle were three juveniles, ages 14, 15, and 16. During a search of the vehicle, Officer Miramontes, along with Officers Aaron Lewis and Aaron Jones, recovered four handguns. Police say a fifth handgun was discovered hidden under one juvenile's shirt.

Investigators believe at least four of the five firearms had been reported stolen during recent vehicle burglaries.

All three juveniles were arrested on charges of Theft of a Firearm and transported to the juvenile detention center.

Police Urge Gun Owners to Secure Firearms

TTPD said the case serves as another reminder that many firearms used in crimes are first stolen from unattended vehicles.

You, as a responsible gun owner, are encouraged not to leave firearms inside an unlocked vehicle. If a firearm must be left in a vehicle, police recommend locking it in a secure compartment to help prevent theft.

As with all criminal cases, the investigation is ongoing, and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
