Pedestrian Safety Upgrades Coming From TxDOT to Texarkana in 2026
New sidewalk projects have been popping up all over Texarkana in recent months. Well, get ready because more are coming in 2026. Texarkana is set to see major pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements next year on the Texas side, as new sidewalks and bike lanes move into construction. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded the project in October as part of its ongoing efforts to improve safety in communities under 200,000 residents.
College Drive in Texarkana to See 2.2 Miles of New Sidewalk
The work will add concrete sidewalks along College Drive from Robison Road to U.S. Highway 71, covering about 2.2 miles. The project also includes new pedestrian crossing signals, ADA-accessible ramps, and connections to existing walkways.
“This project will expand an existing sidewalk network and include pedestrian crossing signals and ramps,” said TxDOT Texarkana Area Engineer Tommy Bruce. He noted that improved walkways give residents safer access to work, school, and other destinations.
