Letter Carriers Annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive in Texarkana

The 32nd annual Letter Carriers "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive" is coming up on Saturday, May 11. 2024.

The event will begin at 9 AM, each year letter carriers across the country unite for this special food drive as they collect non-perishable food donations from their customers. On Saturday just set a bag of non-perishable items by your mailbox and letter carriers will pick up the donations to be delivered to our local food bank.

The donations will go to Harvest Regional Food Bank to help provide hunger relief to neighborhoods in need in Miller and Bowie County. Harvest Regional Food Bank provides much-needed food to over 80 local pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout the year.

“With the high cost of food, more people are struggling to put food on their table, especially families with children who may not have access to school-provided meals over the summer," said,  Camille Wrinkle, CEO of Harvest Regional Food Bank

In the 32 years since it began, the food drive has collected well over 1.9 billion pounds of food for struggling residents, nationally. The need for food donations is great. Currently, more than 44 million Americans are unsure where their next meal will come from. More than 13 million are children who feel hunger's impact on their overall health and ability to perform in school. Nearly 5.5 million seniors over age 60 are food insecure, with many who live on fixed incomes often too embarrassed to ask for help.

Letter carriers travel through our community daily, often coming face to face with a sad reality for too many, hunger and this is why this food drive is so important. Food banks and donations get the majority of their food during the holidays and by spring many of the pantries are depleted and run low during the summer months.
