Prepping Your Car for Colder Weather Conditions
Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s below freezing overnight for several days. Now is the time to prepare your vehicle for the colder air ahead. I don't know about you, but I hate getting into a cold car especially when you've been in a warm bed all night, people with older cars know that feeling of dread of starting your car and letting it warm up while you sip on a hot cup of coffee.
Thankfully, most newer model cars are fuel-injected and compensate for temperature changes, and some vehicles today have remote starts, so you don't even have to go out of the house into the cold. If you have the luxury of seat warmers that is a bonus, especially if you have leather seats, believe me.
However, to ensure that your car is running at peak performance during colder weather check out these helpful tips, from THV11 in Little Rock.
- Have your tires checked for proper inflation. The proper inflation of your tires should be found inside the driver's side door. Tires deflate in colder weather and could make your tire sensors go off and become erratic.
- Have your oil and antifreeze levels checked.
- Have your battery checked and replaced if you have had it for more than 3-4 years
- Have your windshield wipers checked and replaced, they will not work properly especially if there is freezing rain or snow.
- Have a Roadside Hazard Kit handy and carry a warm blanket or extra-warm clothing.
It's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to unpredictable weather conditions in Arkansas.
Right now it looks like severe storms will impact the northern and central sections of Arkansas on Sunday with much colder air moving in on Monday. The weather in the Ark-La-Tex will be stormy on Sunday with the colder arctic air moving into much of the area. Monday night temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight for several nights. During this time no winter precipitation is expected but that could change in the coming days.
