The City of Texarkana, Texas, Planning and Community Development Department proudly announced that the Lofts at the Grim have been awarded a 2025 Preservation Texas Honor Award.

According to a press release, the award was presented during the Preservation Texas Honor Award Ceremony on Thursday, October 30th, in San Antonio. This prestigious recognition from Preservation Texas, the statewide nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding Texas’s historic and cultural heritage, celebrates exemplary accomplishments in historic preservation and community revitalization.

Thanks to Cohen-Esrey Development, this honor reflects the dedication, creativity, and partnership that made the Grim renovation possible.

Featured Highlights of the Lofts at the Grim, Texarkana, Texas

$42.7 million was invested to help preserve some of the key structures, including the Grand Lobby and the Palm Court Room, which have been transformed to their former glory. One of the highlights of the Lofts at the Grim is the contemporary living spaces that blend modern comfort with classic charm, bringing the building back to life.

The redevelopment aligns with the city's broader vision of revitalizing historic spaces while nurturing a growing urban community. The Lofts at the Grim offer affordable housing that is accessible to the working population, fostering a sense of belonging and community within Texarkana’s historical district.

Named after local businessman William Rhodes Grim, the original hotel’s rich history is honored through careful restoration, adding fresh energy and life to the downtown area.
