Does Texas Really Have the Highest Speed Limit in the US?

If you have ever driven through Texas on a freeway or interstate and noticed that the maximum speed limit is 75 MPH most drivers are going faster than that.

Where in Texas?

On a stretch of highway in the Lone Star State the speed limit is 85 MPH the highest in the US and can be found on State Highway 130 between State Highway 45 near Austin and I-10 in Seguin. For approximately 40 miles drivers can legally drive 85 MPH without worrying about getting a ticket unless they exceed the speed limit which I'm sure most people still do. Kinda gives new meaning to that Sammy Hagar song, "I Can't Drive 55."

The towns of Medoza and Lockhart are right in the path of the highway, according to the website Only In Your State.  In most other states in the United States, the maximum speed limit is between 70 to 75 MPH, and most speed limits are based on cars. Trucks may have to abide by a lower speed limit, normally 5 MPH less than the maximum speed limit allowed for vehicles.

So if Texas has the fastest speed limit who has the slowest?

The Answer

It's Hawaii, you're in paradise what's the hurry? The speed limit there is 60 MPH.

While Texas may have the highest speed limit in the United States, what about the rest of the world? If you ever find yourself in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, a 100 MPH speed limit is allowed there.  And in some parts of Germany, roughly 70 percent of that country no speed limit is required. It would interesting to see what the fatality rate is there without speed restrictions, it can't be good.

For now, I think I'll stick to the great state of Texas.
