Buried Ruins Under a Lake in Arkansas Are Showing Up
Did you know there are buried ruins underneath Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas?
The Underwater World of Monte Ne
Monte Ne was a once-planned resort community that was a destination for many people across much of our country from the early 1900s to the late 1920s. Just this week on October 23, 2024 water levels have become so low due to drought conditions that some ruins have become visible as Beaver Lake continues to recede.
The ruins of this once beloved city of Monte Ne have been underwater since the 1960s when White River was dammed to construct Beaver Lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Monte Ne was a dream project for presidential candidate William "Coin" Harvey who loved the area he wanted to make it into a vacation destination but he was unable to get the funds needed to make his dream come true and the project was eventually killed.
The only things left of Monte Ne are some stone ruins and steps that can be seen when the water level recedes as it seems to be doing now. You never know what you will see, you might even see a ghost from an eerie past.
By the way, Monte Ne means "Mountain Water."
The once-historic resort of Monte Ne is located near Rogers in Northwest Arkansas.
