Texarkana – Get Ready For The ‘Blood Moon Eclipse’ on March 3rd
Besides werewolves, who's ready for the "Blood Moon"? In the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Moon will pass directly into Earth’s shadow, causing it to darken and take on a reddish tint, an effect often called a “Blood Moon.” This happens because sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere and reflects onto the Moon, scattering blue light and leaving the reds and oranges.
Unlike solar eclipses, a lunar eclipse is safe to watch with your naked eyes, so, no special glasses are needed. Binoculars or a small telescope can make the view even more stunning.
When to Watch from Texarkana, East Texas, SW Arkansas
The eclipse will take place in the early morning hours of March 3, before the Moon sets. Key Eclipse Times (Central Time, March 3, 2026):
- Penumbral eclipse begins: 3:44 AM - Subtle shading begins as the Moon enters Earth’s outer shadow.
- Partial eclipse begins: 4:50 AM - Earth’s darker shadow starts covering the Moon’s edge.
- Totality begins: 5:04 AM - The Moon is fully inside Earth’s umbra and starts to turn red.
- Peak of totality: 5:33 AM - The Moon reaches its deepest red hue.
- Totality ends: 6:02 AM - The Moon starts exiting Earth’s darkest shadow.
- Partial ends: 7:17 AM - Earth’s umbra fully leaves the Moon’s face.
- Penumbral ends: 8:22 AM - The last subtle shading disappears.
Texarkana will have a good view of the totality phase as long as the Moon is above the horizon and the weather is clear. Since this all happens near moonset, the exact timings may shift slightly locally.
How to Watch
• No eye protection needed, lunar eclipses are safe to view directly.
• Find a clear view of the southeastern sky before sunrise.
• Binoculars or a telescope will enhance details, but aren’t required.
• Check the weather forecast; cloud cover can block the view.
Why Is This Eclipse Special?
This total lunar eclipse is the only one in 2026 visible from North America and the last until Dec. 31, 2028, making it a rare chance to see a true Blood Moon.
