When you hear about the best places to live in Arkansas, you often hear about Northwest Arkansas but according to the U.S. Census Bureau in May, a charming small town 50 miles northeast of Little Rock has been ranked in the Top 10 as one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States.
That's right, the U.S. Census Bureau recognized the city of Searcy as one of the fastest-growing cities in the state with a population growth of at least 20,000 residents and counting, according to new census data.
That's a 3.9 percent growth rate for cities with 20,000 residents and makes it the 95th fastest-growing city in the United States and the 9th fastest-growing city in Arkansas. Searcy is a vibrant community that offers a strong economy, great schools, with small-town values that allow its residents to flourish and enjoy a great way of life for families to work and children to grow up in.
According to the Searcy Regional Chamber of Commerce, residents are welcome through hard work and dedication from the businesses that support the community. Searcy is committed to developing initiatives and partnerships that will help sustain future growth for years to come and invest in jobs and industries that will continue to be one of the best places to live in Arkansas.
Most residents who live in Searcy own their homes and the families who live here are considered to be somewhat conservative. The best part is that you are only 50 miles northeast of Little Rock if you want to experience the biggest city in Arkansas.
Harding University
Searcy, Arkansas is also a college town with Harding University, one of the largest private universities in the state boasting 5,00 students and job opportunities for 800 people. The Little Red River and White Sulpher Springs are part of Searcy's history and the town's streets were named after streets in Philadelphia by a man named Israel Moore. The town was officially named Searcy in honor of Richard Searcy, a lawyer who played a role in the Arkansas Territory gaining statehood, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
In 1926, the third-largest rough diamond in the U.S. was discovered on a farm, it was 27.21 carats. If you love fishing and hiking beautiful Greers Ferry Lake is just minutes away with some of the best rainbow trout fishing in the natural state.
By the way, Searcy is pronounced CERCY and it means one who is from France or in this case, Arkansas.
