Arkansas Stars Shine In Paramount’s ‘Landman’ Set In Texas
The Paramount + streaming television hit "Landman" might be about the oil business world in Texas but two of the main stars hail from Arkansas.
😍Billy Bob Thorton
😍Jacob Lofland
😍Arkansas Connections
Billy Bob Thorton
Hot Springs, Arkansas native and Oscar-nominated and Academy Award winner, actor Billy Bob Thorton just earned his seventh Golden Globe nomination. He began his climb to fame when he starred, directed, and wrote the script for the movie, "Sling Blade." Thorton was nominated for Best Actor for his role in 1997 and won an award for Best Writing and Screenplay, according to AYmag.com., a website dedicated to everything Arkansas. Billy Bob plays the role of Tommy Norris to perfection in "Landman," a hard-nosed no-nonsense oil negotiator stuck between making the oil tycoons happy, dealing with the drug cartels, and putting up with personal drama with an ex-wife played by Ali Larter and his dysfunctional family.
It was said, that when the movie was written by "Yellowstone" juggernaut Taylor Sheridan, he already had Billy Bob Thorton in mind for the role. Billy Bob Thorton is also a gifted singer-songwriter and musician with his band, The Boxmasters.
Jacob Lofland
Another Arkansas native from Briggsfield, Jacob portrays the role of Tommy's son, Cooper, in "Landman" a somewhat sensitive but career-driven personality. Lofland's claim to fame was in the movie, "Mud" with Texas native Matthew McConaughey in 2012. Some of the scenes were shot in the Arkansas Delta region.
Lofland is a die-hard Arkansas Razorbacks fan and posts regularly on his Facebook page. The movie takes place in Lubbock, Texas home to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, in one scene he is seen wearing a Texas Tech cap which I'm sure his Arkansas friends gave him a hard time about, all in fun. His most notable movies were "Maze Runner," "Scorch Trials," and "The Death Cure."
Surprise Cameo Appearance on Landman TV Show
Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, an Arkansas native was seen on a January 5, episode having an encounter with an oil tycoon played by actor Jon Hamm. His appearance has stirred up quite a buzz on social media, many folks said they were impressed by his natural acting ability.
