Get ready for the 5th annual Free Tree Fridays as this program from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture starts this Friday, March 21, and goes on through April 25 at different locations throughout the state.

This is our chance to get free tree bare root seedlings that are native to our area. These tree species have been picked specifically to different areas of Arkansas to ensure the trees will flourish and thrive for years to come.

Kristine Kimbro, Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator said in a press release,

Free Tree Fridays is a way to raise awareness about the benefits of trees and encourage more people to plant them in their communities. This event has grown over the years, and we are excited to continue offering Arkansans the opportunity to plant native trees in their own backyards.

Trees not only bring beauty to our yards but they also give us wonderful shade in the summer months that can actually help keep our homes cooler. They also provide shelter and food for wildlife.

What Kinds of Trees Will be Given Away in Arkansas on Free Tree Fridays?

There will be a selection of young native Arkansas trees that will be handed out on Fridays, including Cherrybark Oak, Eastern Redbud Persimmon, Red mulberry, River Birch and Shumard Oak. When you come to one of these events you will be able to take home up to five free bare-root seedlings while supplies last.
