Woman Finds 2.30-Carat Diamond for Engagement Ring at Arkansas Park
A 31-year-old woman's hard work and determination helped her reach a personal goal she set for herself a couple of years ago when she found a 2.30-carat white diamond at Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park last month.
A Personal Goal Two Years in the Making
Micherre Fox, from Manhattan, New York, put into motion a plan two years ago to hunt for a diamond for an engagement ring.
She told park officials in a press release,
There's something symbolic about being able to solve problems with money, but sometimes money runs out in a marriage. You need to be willing and able to solve those problems with hard work.
Her partner was understanding and supportive of the idea and agreed to wait until she achieved her goal. She was ready to go anywhere in the world to find the diamond.
Once Fox graduated from graduate school, she set her sights on heading to Arkansas after researching that it was the only place in the world where the public could go hunting for diamonds.
She arrived on July 8 for a three-week stay and spent nearly every day searching for a diamond while also taking advantage of the park's other attractions.
The Search for 'The Most Diamond-y Diamond
Then, on July 29 at about 11 AM, she spotted something glistening by the West Drain area of the park. At first, she thought it was a spiderweb, but the shine didn't fade as she moved towards it. It wasn't until she picked it up that she realized it was the "most diamond-y diamond' she had ever seen.
The Third-Largest Diamond Found This Year
When she brought it to the park officials to identify it, she found out she was right! The park officials confirmed it was a smooth, rounded, colorless diamond with metallic luster, and it turns out it is the third-largest diamond found at the park this year.
Fox had the chance to name the diamond Fox-Ballou Diamond after her and her partner's last names, and she plans to have it set in the engagement ring.
Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.
