Going Nuts Over World Champion Squirrel Cook-Off in Arkansas
Things are about to get Squirrely this fall in Springdale, Arkansas.
The 10th annual Squirrel Cook-Off is set for September 23, at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission J. B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center. The organizer of the World Champion Squirrel Cook-Off in 2013 has taken this event to the next level by taking traditional country cuisine to a competitive level, unlike anything you've seen before in the state of Arkansas.
Jed Clampett and Granny from the famous television show "The Beverly Hillbillies" wouldn't be able to keep up with all the cooking going on here from squirrel sushi, squirrel corn dogs, squirrel gumbo, rotisserie squirrel, fried squirrel, and even squirrel pizza.
To enter the contest just bring your best squirrel recipe and your critter to prepare the nuttiest and tastiest dish you ever sunk your teeth into. And no road kill allowed!
This is not just some redneck gathering this is a national competition that brings in cooks from all over the world.
The World Champion Squirrel Cook-Off winner not only will get bragging rights but has a chance to take home prizes from 1st through 3rd place. There will be plenty of live music plus I'm sure there will be some other vendors just in case squirrel is not your flavor of the day.
