Be The Best Employee You Can Be
Want to know the secret to being an irresistible employee? Just be like me. Problem solved! No, I'm just messing with you. Seriously, only kidding (please don't hurt me).
An article was posted recently on MediaBistro.com that details all the skills and tips you need to be an outstanding employee. I'm going to sum it up for you in my own words (and add a few of my own tips).
- Be a yes-man...or yes-woman! You really don't want to be known as the person that is always saying no around the office. Besides, saying yes makes you seem way more inviting and who wouldn't want that?
- Put your problem solving skills to use! Be the person that casually pitches in and tries to help solve all the problems, even the little ones. Be the person to grab chairs to bring in for the morning meeting. Be the person who offers to fix a problem for a co-worker.
- Be a strong communicator! Remember the phrase "communication is key"? Yeah, well that's an accurate statement for sure.
- Stay positive! Nobody wants a Debbie-downer in the office.
- Remain ethical! I don't feel like I need to explain myself on this one people. Even if it's as silly as not stealing someone's lunch from the fridge.
- Stay focused and be reliable! Keep to the task at hand. You want to be that employee that is dependable and if you're mind isn't always on what it should be then you lose credibility.
- Be grateful! You probably started from the bottom and may have even worked your way up the work ladder, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still appreciate the people who put you there. Just saying.
Want to know some of my tips? I only really have three.
The first is to always smile. That goes along with the staying positive rule above, but I really think that a smile at work can be the difference between a horrible day and a good one.
The second rule is to always be efficient! Get things done in a timely manner and really do your research. It's not that hard people.
The last rule? NEVER BE LATE. If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. Can you tell that being late is one of my pet peeves?
