Netflix Renews ‘Altered Carbon,’ Anthony Mackie to Take the Lead in Season 2
We always knew that if Netflix picked Altered Carbon up for a second season, Joel Kinnaman wouldn’t be reprising the role of protagonist Takeshi Kovacs. That’s because the sci-fi series, based on the novels by Richard K. Morgan, takes place in a future where human consciousness has been digitized and can be uploaded into various bodies. As such, Takeshi’s story takes place over the span of several centuries and many bodies (or “sleeves”), and his next one will take the form of Marvel star Anthony Mackie.

‘Guardians‘ Star Dave Bautista Is ‘Not OK’ With James Gunn’s Firing
Fans of both James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy received quite a shock yesterday, when it was revealed that Disney had fired the filmmaker over a series of old, offensive tweets. The tweets, which contained crass, juvenile jokes about rape and children, were dug up by alt-right personality Mike Cernovich — one of many conservatives who took issue with Gunn’s ongoing criticisms of Donald Trump and his administration. Since Gunn’s firing, several people have come to the director’s defense, including Guardians star Dave Bautista.

Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles’ Series Picked Up by Hulu
After Josh Boone’s plans for a new Vampire Chronicles film adaptation (possibly starring Jared Leto) fell through, Paramount and Anne Rice decided to take the author’s beloved novel franchise to the small screen. Last year, the studio announced that it had optioned the rights to Rice’s 11-book collection for a new TV series, which has been officially picked up by Hulu.
MoviePass Stock Hits Record Low, Begs to Be Put Out of Its Misery
How does MoviePass still exist at this point? The company, which offers customers the ability to see one movie per day for the too-good-to-be-true price of $9.99 per month, has rapidly morphed into a case study in mystifying capitalism. Despite its consistently declining stock value, and the fact that the company spends far more than it brings in, MoviePass continues to operate — but for how much longer?
‘Black Panther’ Fave Danai Gurira in Talks for ‘Star Trek’ Sequel and ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’
From hacking and slashing zombies on The Walking Dead to defending the honor of Wakanda in Black Panther, Danai Gurira has become one of our favorite badasses of screens both big and small. And it looks like the powers that be behind two other big franchises have also taken note of her awesomeness because Gurira is reportedly in talks to bring her badassery to Godzilla Vs. Kong and an upcoming Star Trek sequel.
Marvel Has Finally Found Its ‘Black Widow’ Director!
Although Marvel sure did drag their feet on the way to committing to the Black Widow movie, we gotta give credit where credit’s due: The studio was very thorough in finding the right director to take on Scarlett Johansson’s highly-anticipated solo film. Over the course of several months, Marvel met with 70-ish female directors before making their final selection. And the director of Black Widow is… (make up your own drumroll, please)
