ASAP Rocky Releases Statement After Receiving Guilty Verdict in Assault Trial
A$AP Rocky speaks.
On Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 14), just hours after a Swedish jury found him guilty of assault, Rocky used his Instagram account to release a statement on the matter. While he's disappointed with the verdict, he gives thanks to his fans and his attorneys.
"I AM OF COURSE DISAPPOINTED BY TODAY’S VERDICT," Rocky writes. "I WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS, AND EVERYONE WHO SHOWED ME LOVE DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. IMMA KEEP MOVING FORWARD. THANK YOU TO MY TEAM, MY MANAGEMENT, ATTORNEYS, LABEL AND EVERYONE WHO ADVOCATED FOR JUSTICE. 🙏🏿."
While Rocky is disappointed with the outcome, he did avoid jail time, so its clear things could have been much worse. Prosecutors wanted Rocky to be sentenced to six months in prison because they believed he and his two co-defendants used bottles during their fight with Mustafa Jafari. However, jury members didn't think there was sufficient evidence to prove that he and his team had used bottles to injure Jafari during the Stockholm, Sweden street brawl on June 30.
Because of this, Rocky and company weren't sentenced to any prison time. Rocky did, however, have to pay Jafari roughly $1,300 U.S. dollars in addition to his own legal fees. Rocky and his two associates had to pay for their Swedish public defense counsel as well.
Hours before Rocky made a statement himself, his lawyer issued a statement on the matter. You can read that statement below.
