Hardin had a friendly competition with another man. Hardin said in a press release:
"One of the other guys and I have been going back and forth, seeing who can find the biggest diamond.  I found a big one, then he got a 1.79-carat and we were joking about who would find the next big diamond and be 'king of the mountain.'"

It was big alright.

Hardin was wet sifting when he found the diamond on April 10.

Park Interpreter Waymon Cox  said

“Mr. Hardin’s diamond is about the size of a pinto bean, with a coffee brown color and a rounded shape."

When you find a big diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park most people name them. Hardin has named his Frankenstone, he picked the name because he felt that the diamond it's "pretty" and not so pretty at the same time. He plans on selling the diamond as he has sold others he has found in the past.
