With New Fragrance, Adam Levine Didn’t Want to Be “Another Famous Dude Selling Crap”

Maroon 5's Adam Levine recently launched his first-ever signature fragrance collection, and the singer says even though he was vehemently opposed to the idea of celebrity perfumes, he decided he could be the one guy to do it right.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Adam admits, "I laughed when they asked me about it," but adds, "I got convinced to do [it] by some amazing creative people who I trust."  So why did he say yes?  He explains, "I thought, 'If I don't like something, the perception of something, wouldn't it be more interesting to try and change it than just go along hating it as you always have?'"

Adam says his goal in creating his signature scent was to "make something that competes with real fragrances," because he didn't want to be "another famous dude selling crap."  He says the key to reaching that goal was keeping things "simple and tasteful," and he ended up creating what he thinks is a "really clean, easy, functional" fragrance.

Of course, taking risks on things he's not exactly sure about has worked well for Adam in the past: that's what happened on The Voice.  He tells Rolling Stone, "It was a huge risk, a gamble, it was something that I wasn't so sure about.  But I'm turned on by the idea of taking risks, Life's too short."
