The National Weather Service in Shreveport, LA., has issued a "Winter Storm Watch" for the Ark-La-Tex effective Sunday at midnight through Monday afternoon. Here are the details.

The watch is for areas along and north of Highway 82 from Clarksville, Texas, to Texarkana, and El Dorado, Arkansas.

This watch effects Sevier, Howard, Little River, Hempstead, Nevada, Miller, Lafayette, Columbia, Union, McCurtain, Red River, and Bowie Counties. Including the cities of De Queen, Nashville, Ashdown, Hope, Prescott, Texarkana, Lewisville, Magnolia, El Dorado, Idabel, and Clarksville.

In the wake of an arctic cold front expected Saturday night, an approaching upper storm will bring a cold rain to the area late Sunday. It will then transition over to freezing rain with ice accumulations of a 1/4 inch or more.

Accumulations of ice from a trace to a 10th of an inch will cause travel problems along the U.S. Highway 82 corridor. Higher amounts of ice accumulation of a quarter inch or more are likely north of that corridor. Power outages are likely to occur in many locations as tree limbs get weighed down with ice. Stay away from any downed power lines and call for help.

A winter storm watch means there is potential for significant ice accumulations that may impact travel and the comfort of electricity. Please continue to monitor the latest forecasts as the watch area could change and may well be extended into Tuesday as a second cold front arrives to the four states area.
