Did you know that chewing ice is actually a sign that you are missing something in your diet. No, no, not that old wives tail about being sex-deprived. Ice chewing can also turn into an addiction called pagophagia.

If you have a desire to chew ice it may mean that you have low iron in your bloodstream. Pagophagia is a form of pica, which is that odd urge to eat things that aren't food like dirt. I read that some people chew ice so much that they have lost jobs and relationships. I can see that. I can't stand to be around someone chomping on ice. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have estimated that there are 16 percent of us that are compulsive ice chewers. Suddenly I have an urge to chew ice.
