On Monday afternoon I checked my mail and an interesting letter was among the stack of usual stuff. I found out after a quick call to the city this is a scam and I wanted you to know about it.

Here is what the note looks like that I received.

The note goes into details that it is strongly recommended to get these letter painted on your curb to help in an emergency. They say that it will aid in the police, fire, or ambulance service being able to find your home in an emergency situation. The price for this service is only $20 but can go up to $35 depending on what design you would like to use on your curb.

I called the city about this and they knew nothing of this being offered. I was told that they do not have anything to do with the service and you should only do this if you want to and this is not required by the city. The very fact that this business puts these flyers in your mailbox is actually a federal offense is reason enough not to do business with them. In this article you can see that the person who commits this offense can receive a fine up to $5000.

Be careful when you see this kind of thing in your mailbox or even your front door. Only deal with a business if you have a chance to do a little background on them. If you have concerns call the Texarkana, Arkansas public works division at 870 779 4971.
